Editing
The editor is where an operator spends most of the day, so Zenom borrows the conventions people already know from modern design tools — on a GPU-accelerated canvas.
Canvas and precision
- Millimeter coordinates centered on the field origin, Y up — the CAD convention shared with EzCad and LightBurn.
- Zoom from 1% to 20000% to the cursor, pan with Space or the middle button, rulers, grid with snap, Fit to Window.
- Object snap and smart guides: alignment lines against edges and centers of neighboring objects, snap badges for centers, corners, midpoints and anchors — with hysteresis, so objects “unstick” deliberately. Hold Ctrl to bypass all magnets for one gesture.
- Document guides dragged from the rulers, with exact numeric positioning and locking.
- Reference Measure: point at a segment, enter its real distance — the selection scales to true size. The go-to way to calibrate an imported drawing or photo.
Selection and transforms
- Window and crossing marquee selection, Shift to toggle, Ctrl+click deep select into groups, parent-and-child selections normalized so children never move twice.
- Scoped group editing: double-click enters the group, the rest of the document dims, Esc steps back out — the same scope works for arrays and live symmetry.
- Eight resize handles with Shift (proportional) and Alt (from center); rotation zones behind the corners with a 15° step on Shift; Alt+drag clones the selection; Esc mid-gesture cancels cleanly without touching the undo history.
- Exact X/Y/W/H and angle spinners with proportion lock.
Operations
- Align and distribute — relative to the selection or the workspace.
- Boolean union, subtract, intersect, exclude with a live preview; results are compound paths that keep their holes.
- Contour offset — outward, inward or both, with miter/round/bevel corners and live preview.
- Mirror as a one-shot operation, or live symmetry as a container.
- Combine/Uncombine merges contours into one shape with holes and takes it apart again.
- Objects on Path: 2–200 copies of one or several objects laid out evenly along any contour — tick marks on a scale, ornaments along an arc; copies can rotate along the path, and variable text advances per copy.
Image tracing
Turn a photo, logo or scan into vector contours: threshold with automatic adaptive binarization on uneven scans, noise filter, curve smoothing and node optimization — with a live preview and an area mode that traces just a lasso-selected fragment. The tracer is a clean-room implementation of the Potrace algorithm that adapts to input noise, so detailed line art does not get smoothed away.
Undo, clipboard, command palette
- 100 undo steps per document tab, covering everything from node edits to boolean operations; spinner changes coalesce into single entries.
- Undo History panel with thumbnails: click any step to preview the document at that point, commit if you want to keep it.
- Clipboard between tabs with all properties; paste an image straight from the system clipboard — a screenshot becomes a raster object.
- Command palette (Ctrl+K) with fuzzy search over every command, tool and dialog, hotkey hints and a recently-used list.
